New
Community Action Office Construction Completed
In
February 2006, Community Action acquired the empty 30,000 square
foot prison building in Glouster, Ohio. This building was
constructed in 2001 as a minimum security "Boot Camp"
but was never used. Community Action staff began developing
ideas for using the building in 2003 as they toured
the facility with various funding sources and potential
partners.
In
2004, plans became more complete to acquire, remodel and create
a multipurpose Community
Action Service Center that would house Community Action's
administrative offices, a medical clinic for Doctor's Hospital,
the Glouster Village Police Office, a Head Start Center, and a multipurpose
"Community Room". This project will not only improve
service delivery to northern Athens County, southern Perry County,
and eastern Hocking County, but would eventually locate over 50
full time jobs for the community.
Community
Action awarded contracts and began renovation
construction for Phase I of the project; Community
Action offices and Glouster Village offices. We officially moved in on October 1, 2007. Our new location is:

FROM
ATHENS : From the intersection of Columbus Road
and St. Rt. 33 West, take State Rt. 13 North to Chauncey/Glouster.
(Watch
speed in Chauncey). Proceed 11.5 miles to Glouster football stadium
(on left), turn right on Braun Street, go over RR tracks to first
street, turn right on Cardaras Drive. You are headed into our parking
lot.
FROM
COLUMBUS : Take St. Rt. 33 East to Nelsonville.
At 5th stoplight turn left on St.Rt. 78 (to Murray City and Burr
Oak State Park ). Travel 11.3 miles (watch speed in Buchtel and
Murray City ) into intersection at St.Rt.13 in Glouster. Turn right
on 13 and proceed to first street left (Braun Street), turn left
on Braun Street, go over RR tracks to first street, turn right on
Cardaras Drive. You
are headed into our parking lot.
