College Scholarships

 David V. Stivison Appalachian
Scholarship Fund

Too often promising individuals in our area don’t have the option of going to college simply because they can’t afford the cost. At HAPCAP we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity of a higher education and have created the David V. Stivison scholarship fund to help provide that opportunity.

The fund provides financial assistance to local high school seniors from working poor families who desire to further their career opportunities through a college education. This scholarship is available to students in Hocking, Athens and Perry counties.

The David V. Stivison Appalachian Scholarship Fund is named for a former employee who was a native of Hocking County. He died of cancer before he could complete his dream of helping Appalachian youth go on to college.

If you apply for our scholarship you may also be referred to the Coalition of Appalachian Development (COAD) for addition funding!

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Reside in the area
  • Meet income eligibility guidelines
  • Have obtained or will obtain a high school degree of GED
  • Have been accepted by an accredited 2 or 4 year institution of higher learning
  • Non-traditional (ie – adults going back to school) students may also apply

Completed application must be submitted to
Hocking. Athens. Perry Community Action by April 1, each year
in order to be considered for funding for the academic year
beginning in September.
